What is a Football Formation

In the modern game of football, a formation is considered to be the way in which eleven players line up on the pitch. In this blog post, we will discuss what a football formation is and how you can assess it yourself.

– There are a number of different formations, but the most common is referred to as ‘the classic formation’. This consists of four defenders, two central midfielders and three attackers.

– In this formation there must be at least one defender within marking distance of an opponent. The rest should form a flat line across the pitch with no gaps between players. Each player has their own specific job that they will carry out throughout the game which we discuss below: ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur adipiscing elit sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua enim ad minim veniam quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.

– The goalkeeper should be in front of the four defenders and occupies one side of the goal, marking any opposition players that are nearby. If there is no pressure on them then they can resort to kicking it long into space for attackers to chase after or pick out a target with their distribution following an outlet pass from a defender.

– One central midfielder will usually stay deeper than their team mates when defending which gives added protection against counter attacks whilst another presses high up the pitch to close down opponents who have just played it forward quickly through midfield. This player would also help transition play if possession was lost instantly by intercepting passes made behind them or tackling an opponent
